Vogue 8728

WooHoo!  I’m back!  The switch from Apple to Linux has gone much smother than I was expecting.  I’m quite happy with my new machine and I LOVE my new mobile device.  I’m sure most of my Android love has to do with the fact that my iTouch was a first generation one, so it had no phone, couldn’t support a lot of the new apps or app updates.  But enough with the technical stuff, on to the sewing!

Today’s FO is Vogue 8728.  This is part of Vogue current “Vintage Vogue” collection.  I started off with low expectations.  Who wants extra fabric on an already large bust?!?!  I am, however, in love with the peasant dress look and the fitted midriff seemed like a good way to have a flattering peasant look.  My first muslin was a bit small, but instead of going back to the drawing board, I decided to dig through my stash for a suitable knit.  This rayon jersey is a modern print, but seems to work.  I’ve tried this with modern shoes and white socks and saddle shoes and both are fine.  If I could find more vintage looking prints, I’d make a ton in jersey.  I’ve decided to hang on to this muslin and label it “for knits”.  I’m still working on a woven muslin.

It looks really flattering on you, the waist especially helps to pull the gathers on the top and skirt together so that it’s really neat. I like the modern print with the vintage pattern, it works well together.

  2. Lovely. My version of this dress was a disaster. I think it was my fabric choose.

I LOVE this! The lines are so flattering and the print actually looks 40’s…this would be a fabulous dress in knits too!

Thanks! You’re right, when I wear it with 40’s hair and shoes, it does look 40’s. With modern hair and shoes, it looks modern. I think that’s why I love it so much.

This is the 2nd time I’ve seen this pattern recently and oh, I am in love- yours has made it a must make…wow that was probably easier to type than it would be to say. …I’m getting up to go thru the stash now. Lovely work!

It looks great! I’ve been always wary of gathers in general but you’ve made me change my mind.

Absolutely gorgeous! You look beautiful. This pattern’s been on my list for quite a while, but it just moved higher.
