Marian Martin 9197

Me-Made-May has really put the pressure on my sewing schedule.  This project has been on my to-sew list for a month.  Marian Martin 9197 is the pattern that was the foundation of my cherries blouse.  While I love the blouse and plan to make more, I am undecided on the dress.  Maybe it’s the color, maybe it’s the sweet, calico print, but this very nearly screams “polygamy ranch” to.  Maybe this one would work better in a solid color or a print with a more rockabilly print.  I’m still looking for the perfect dress that I can make over and over.  I’m not sure this is it.  I am willing to keep trying, though.  The pattern looks really cute with the solid skirt and bolero and plaid bodice, but the bolero would be a winter look.

When this came up on my screen I thought “wow, this is gorgeous – what is she speaking about?!” and then I scrolled down and saw the belt and realised what you mean… What about adding a dark blue border on the hem, dark blue belt and piping on the collar? It might jazz it up a bit?
