McCall’s 5974 is part of the Palmer/Pletsch Classic Fit line. This is called “the perfect knit dress”. While I wouldn’t call it “the perfect knit dress”, I do like it. What makes P/P patterns different is that they have most of the common alteration lines printed on the tissue pieces. My only complaint with this pattern is that there is no line for an above waist petite adjustment line. I did do a FBA, but should have added more length to the bodice front. Looking at the other reviews on PR, they show the bottom of the waistband insert sitting at the natural waist. The finished garment is cute and VERY comfortable. I’d like to try another version with a lowered waistband to make my final decision on this pattern.

It’s nice, but I agree, the band should ideally fall at the natural waist, not empire style, if only for comfort’s sake. I’m not a fan of polyester — is this a cotton knit? Love the 60’s style pattern, though.
Being long-waisted myself, I can identify with the adjustment problem. Just make sure you’re adding the RIGHT few inches (ie, measure where you’re adding them), but you’re a pro, you know all that stuff. Now you know why I usually fly without a pattern, or just use it for a guideline.

oooh, that is cute and very flattering – i rather like the empire waistline myself – it hides many a previous (and current) sin. you always select such fun fabrics! (and i love love love your hair red!)
You look Fabulous! That looks like a great pattern; will look for your final review.
Very cute! It looks great on you.
I think this looks great on you! I love the fabric and I think the empire waistline is very flattering. The pearls are the perfect touch! I have this pattern in my “to-do” pile.
LOVE that on you! That fabric is so fun, too!
I swear everything you make is cuter than what you made before. I love this dress and it really fits your style while looking so flattering. I’m not sure I’d like it at waist level as the empire waistline looks great.
Thanks, everyone! This very modern style is so out of my comfort zone but I’m pleased everyone likes it!
Oh I really like this one! Dang, I almost picked up the pattern last week too. 😀
Very flattering. The pattern is bold but not overpowering.
Beautiful!
Love the dress!
